2017 has been a steady year for hiring within the supply chain & procurement sector. Though Q1 was a relatively slow quarter due to the Chinese New Year holidays, hiring activities increased in Q2, especially for mid-to-senior positions.
With Hard Goods booming in Asia, and especially in Hong Kong, positions such as quality assurance and product development were in high demand. However, suitable candidates in Hong Kong were limited and companies had to turn to Southern China for the right talent. In addition to candidates from a technical background were also highly sought after as more brands were ready to enter the market. The rise of Hard Goods and continuous demand for Apparel saw the need for experienced supply chain candidates remain consistently high.
As most companies aim to rely less on agents and trading partners in order to increase revenue, positions within trading offices have seen a gradual decline. With the rise of eCommerce as a go to channel for consumers, many companies were looking to add additional candidates with strong sourcing background to existing supply chain teams.
We expect hiring activities to remain consistent for the remainder of the year, though a slight slowdown in August is to be expected as we enter the summer holiday.
