2017 has been a positive year for the Technology sector with high levels of hiring across the market. With the rise of FinTech and IT start ups, demand for candidates with backgrounds in UI and UX were at an all-time high.
As companies continue to invest in big data and data science to drive the next generation of product and growth, we saw an increase in demand for candidates with data science, business analytics and development experience.
Despite the high demand for candidates experienced in data science and UX, the candidate pool was limited in Hong Kong. As a result, companies were open to making foreign hires from tech centres such as Singapore, UK or US. As the majority of companies move to cloud, demand for candidates with traditional infrastructure backgrounds went down.
We expect hiring activities to remain consistent for the remainder of the year, though a slight slowdown in August is to be expected as we enter the summer holiday.
