Lead Software Engineer, SaaS Platform (Contract)

Company / Role Overview

An international startup technology company is looking for a hands-on Lead Developer to join its growing product and engineering team in Ho Chi Minh City. The company is launching a multi-tenant SaaS platform and is entering an important phase of moving from MVP into production, with plans to expand its functionality, user base and international footprint. This role would suit a strong software engineer who enjoys building products, solving practical technical problems and taking greater ownership of architecture and technical direction. You will work closely with the founders and a small engineering team, initially helping strengthen and mentor the team before progressively focusing more heavily on architecture, scalability and hands-on product development.

Key Responsibilities

• Take technical ownership of the platform and contribute hands-on to the design, development and ongoing enhancement of core product capabilities.
• Help evolve the product from its initial MVP into a stable, scalable production platform capable of supporting significant growth in users, transactions and functionality.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other developers, establishing good engineering practices and helping the team deliver effectively together.
• Contribute to architectural and technology decisions, identifying potential limitations and recommending practical solutions that support future scalability and maintainability.
• Develop and enhance backend services, APIs, database-driven functionality and integrations while contributing across the wider application stack where required.
• Support the development of new capabilities across areas including AI-enabled functionality, voice-based features and other functionality on the product roadmap.
• Work closely with founders and other stakeholders to translate business and product objectives into practical technical solutions and development priorities.
• Proactively identify improvements, technical risks and new opportunities rather than simply executing assigned development tasks.

Job Requirements

• Approximately 3–5 years of professional software development experience, with strong hands-on experience building and maintaining production applications.
• Strong backend engineering fundamentals, ideally with Python and FastAPI; candidates with comparable modern backend experience and the ability to learn the existing stack will also be considered.
• Practical experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL/SQL, API development and modern application architecture.
• Experience with a major cloud platform such as Google Cloud Platform, AWS or Azure, together with an understanding of designing applications for reliability and scalability.
• Demonstrated ability to take ownership of technical problems, evaluate different approaches and explain the reasoning behind architecture or implementation decisions.
• Experience providing technical guidance, code-level support or mentoring to other developers; previous formal Lead Developer experience is advantageous but not essential.
• Exposure to SaaS/multi-tenant applications, React/Next.js, Flutter and/or AI/LLM technologies would be advantageous, although candidates are not expected to have experience across every technology.
• Strong learning agility, communication and problem-solving skills, with a hands-on mindset and willingness to work in a fast-moving environment where priorities and technical challenges can evolve quickly.
